ceasar 4 vista

Postby Sirjust » Mon May 21, 2007 3:06 pm

I know Caesar IV does not have Vista support, but I would really like to find a way to get it to work.

Will they write a patch for vista anytime soon?

I can not get the game to run on my new Vista pc:

My specs : core2 @ 2.67, nvidia 7950GT, 2x500GB sata HD's raid 0, 4GB Ram, 22" LCD @1680 res, Vista Ultimate 32.(machine came preloaded with directx10)

I have tried to run the game and in compatibility mode as well with the same error (as admin)

A box pops up saying I have the wrong direct x version, direct x 9c required.

Should I load dx9c ? Or what else can I do ?

Thanks!!

All I can say is that it is there are probably no plans for a DX10 patch.

You may have to setup a dual boot system, one that uses DX9 and one that uses DX10. I don't have Vista so I can't help you there.

You may also have a bad install. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling the game using the compatability mode/administrator on the setup.exe file on the CD.

by dual boot you mean running xp on a partition with dx9c or vista with dx9c?

A. don't think you can install DX 9 I think the installer will tell you that you already have a newer version of DX installed.
B. you might be able to do a dual boot provided you have an operating system disk for Vista and not a system restore disk. You will also need an XP operating system disk.
If you decide on a dual boot please post back as getting the drive to format so that you can install XP is a bit tricky. You will need to install XP on the first partition on the disk and then install Vista on another partition.

yeah..I just have a system restore disk for vista and a win xp upgrade cd disk.
So I will probably try to go with installing the dx9 from d/l. (when installing c4, it also promts me to install dx9c but the two times I tried to install c4 I hit cancel when this came up.)

I'll let you know what happens.

PS: any hope on Windows releasing a patch or sp to allow dx9 games to work if sierra won't?

In the case of CIV it would require MS to release a patch that changes DX 10 back to DX 9 not going to happen. What brand is your computer? Dell gives their owners a disk that's for system restore but is actually the full operating system most other just have system restore disks which include the operating system and other software.

It worked great!

All I did was unistall it and when I re-installed I let it install dx9c from the game cd.

Works like a champ now, did'nt have to adjust any graphic settings either. The only settings it didn't choose was the water effects and it set it up for 1280 res, but on my 22" lcd it looks great. I may play with settings later tonight a bit.

No promises since the game with the latest patches usually seems to work with Vista most of the time provided you install the latest version of DX 9. You can install DX with Vista even though you already have DX 10 installed. What DX 9 does is add back features taken out of DX 10.

It should work but no promises since Vista is a maybe depending on what you have running in the background and drivers for the video card.

How is Tilted Mill going to not release a direct X 10 patch? I bought this game when it first came out and never got to play it becuase my laptop couldn't handle it, and now that I finally have a decent computer I can't play it without going back and forth between direct x 9 and 10? What kind of crap is that? I want my friggin' money back you crooks!

I'm just kidding... But seriously though... you're bad people.

When Caesar 4 was developed and relased Vista was still in beta so the orginal game didn't support Vista. If you want to blame someone then look to MS for developing an operating system that didn't support games.
If you patch the game up to date and install the latest version of DX9 which adds back some functions that MS removed from DX 10 you should be able to run the game. If you have problems after you've done that post back your DX diag and we'll see if we can help you.

Oh, I know MS is a bunch of d-bags, but its still the principal of the thing. The game was indeed released for Windows, and you can't buy a computer these days that doesn't have Vista. The fact that the game is still sold and is unpatched is almost immoral.

Seriously, tell me about it. But I have to say, so far Vista is running like a dream on my computer. As long as you have a super-stupid gaming computer, the operating system actually works. My girlfriend's laptop came with it and the thing was so choppy and slow that it was almost unusable... Something that is also immoral.
