New Strategic Modes: Basic, Hardcore and Nightmare

Postby David Beebe » Mon Dec 17, 2007 10:21 pm

Coming Soon!

Each of the Strategic Modes provides a progressively more rigorous test of your mayoral skills. Unlike Creative play, Strategic play offers no free ride with respect to your treasury, and city planning. Careful attention must be paid to your budget, and all construction decisions must be shrewdly considered. You will also need to manage your Sims' happiness with a more watchful eye.

This update also includes four new UI treatments for Authoritarian, Capitalist, Cyberpunk and Industrial cities, improved support for mods that use custom building textures, optimizations and crash fixes.

WHOA!!!!

Again, David, you folks are awesome!!!

Thanks man for the update on what's coming down the pipe!

But please don't let the more artistic side of the game be static! More for that would be much appreciated as well!!

later,
pat!

This is why there are such things as "TM Fanobois"!

<-- is one...

I was a "fanboi" back when they were working Impressions Games, too.

I can't wait to get my hands on the new stuff. :)

This is the quality and caliber of developing that more of the industry needs.

hehehe I just think that adding a "capitalist" mode (i.e.; more what sc3/4 was) will hopefully shut up the people that thought TM was making SC5... ;)

Well, they won't shut up, but at least there will be a mode they are more familiar with, anyway.

I'd like to personally thank everyone on the TM team for outstanding handling of this release. I'm sure the poor reception of the game was a hit to many of the developers' pride, but you all still managed to show your faces here, and keep in touch with those of us among the faithful.

I have every bit of faith in your guys that you can turn an already great game into something the nay-sayers won't believe they missed when they give it another try.

edit: spelling

Looking forward to seeing how this pans out, I would be one that would love more micromanagerial (strategic) tasks to keep me occupied and challenged while playing SCS.

I should have been able to guess this on second thought. Mike Lattiak's Maintenance Mod came out a little too quickly & he promised a next version. ;)

so i'm one of those guys who heard about this game three months ago, then forgot totally about it until i bought it on an impulse.

I have no idea what the nay-sayers have been saying, haven't read a word of it. I had no idea what the first month of release was like, or any of that bullsh*t. It apparently hardly matters, as I'm having a great time with SC:S.

i kinda like to rant about how the industry puts out nothing but unfinished games for the PC, but SC:S feels less unfinished than it feels like it could be expanded upon successfully.

My only suggestion: make modding easy enough that a retarded monkey could do some really cool stuff, and you may have something here.

(TRANSLATION INTO PUBLISHERSPEAK:

Figure out a way to rake in the cash by making modding easy enough for retarded monkeys to do some really cool stuff.)

No offense to the skilled and knowledgeable modders working on stuff, but the few of you guys can't match the output of thousands. Sure there'd be tons of crap, so you'd have to have a moderated public submissions forum of some sort. Or you could just let "market forces" weed out the garbage. Kinda like what was out there for The Sims 1 (yeah, i saw alot of godawful user created content for THAT game.)

Still, i'd like to see a broader level of accessibility to modding than what exists now, just to see additional stuff from additional creative people.

also a lot of people do not have the time to learn how to mod
either that or they do not try because they think it is too technical
or they just don't think they have the talent blah blah

so I agree an open simple way to mod will definitely be a bonus for the game
and improve it's lifespan

PS how would you test if a retarded monkey could mod the game?...
I suggest testing it with Polar bears as long as you don't think about them

Just an update to my previous post, if I can please beg for a loss screen a bit more clearly, TM.

I meant a loss screen that still allows me to do THIS w/o interruption. ;)

I totally agree with this. Please do make it more easy.

The little I've seen about modding on these forms looks to me like from another planet. I have no time for that, all I want to play when ever I have time for it. On the other hand making your own stuff looks fun. I know it is fun, I've done it in SL but that wasn't scripting though.

Now if they can just make the game playable and not crash every time, i'll be happy.
