Once upon a time, in a mountainous part of the land, a small city began to take shape. But there were always strange rumors about that place. Rumors they told each other, of ghosts and efreets and spirits and other such denizens that flitted through the area, most notably near the castle ruin which had been left to sit for a century or more.

Nobody was quite sure what happened; they said the old lord died of a broken heart, but nobody ever saw his wife leave the castle. Perhaps, some adventurous folk think, her bones lie forever within the castle walls...

But that hasn't stopped some people from deciding to make their homes in this little place nestled up high in the mountains, which seems a fine place to start out growing a few tulips, maybe taking a tour through the botanical garden nearby...

The town of Sim Lanka, as it has been named, has grown!

There are now some cottages near a hedge maze, the area beautified by a giant mobile that spins on windy days. For those residents who wish more communal living arrangements there are a few apartment blocks near the cottages.

Rounding out the budding town center, the residents have erected a Town Hall, and with it a Bureaucracy Building to handle the mounds of paperwork generated by construction and zoning permits. The Department of Public Works keeps the town tidy and has crews standing by, night and day, to aid in repairs to any places that should fall victim to a fire.

The small Savings and Loan keeps residents' savings safe, and the Florist is a nice addition, complementing the Tulip Nursery and the Botanical Garden.

Some enterprising farmers tried to set up near the ruined castle, but after numerous sights of ghosts emanating from the castle, and persistent strange noises from the barn they erected, they have abandoned it to the denizens of the castle who now also haunt the barn.

Residents who go by there at night on a dare (usually teenagers with a bit too much to drink!) say they see an eerie bluish fog rolling out of the barn. In the sober light of day, they wonder if they've been imagining things...

Great. A new city journal. Haven't had one of these in a long while. Maybe it's about time I fire up SCS again. :)

The area near the Town Hall has been beautified with many artistic statues!

The town expands some more with some Triple Decker housing for the residents attracted to the mountainous lifestyle with the occasional report of a creepy spirit or two.

In slightly unsettling news, the denizens of the castle and the barn have constructed a haunted house; there may be some truth to the rumors of zombies coming from over the hills...

Ominously, the cottages that used to line the pictureseque avenue near the Hedge Maze are showing evidence of being haunted by ghosts and spirits. Might this be a sign of supernatural influence at work in Sim Lanka? Only those brave residents who stay in the town and even muster an effort to live alongside the noncorporeal residents of town will truly know!

The town Sheriff, so far, has not reported any increase in crime due to the ghostly residents, although it is fair to say that arresting a poltergeist for disturbing the peace is a little... troublesome. :p

Some sharp-eyed residents of the town are remarking on the dimming of the sun due to the strange haze that seems to overhang the town at times. Perhaps this is the source of the paranormal energy that is suffusing the town's residences?

The city becomes more haunted by the day! Denizens of the town are now putting up haunted houses and shacks almost exclusively and the eerie fog is now a semipermanent part of their houses.

Also, the Mayor authorized a graveyard to be constructed some distance away from the town, and a sign near the graveyard warns visitors to not disturb the graves, because it may disturb the spirits of the dead. Given that a couple of teenagers who tipped over a gravestone or two ended up turning themselves in lest the ghosts of the graveyard mete out their own form of justice, the sign is a most necessary one.

The eerieness of the city of Sim Lanka, whose spiritual and noncorporeal denizens now outnumber the physical in the latest census, has become fully evident in a city of near perpetual night, with spooky demonic statues in the centers of city intersections, and a plethora of haunted houses and shacks to scare, entertain, and startle unwary passersby on the street. Its spookiness is not for everyone, but for those who stay to brave the strange nature of this town, it has its advantages if one does not mind the occasional ghost making conversation at dinner. ;) Or, if you're a student of the paranormal at the local university, Ghostery 101 has numerous practical labs for the intrepid explorers of the paranormal. :D

And even to this day, still nobody quite dares to enter the castle ruins and find the truth about the old castle lord and his wife...

Perhaps the right adventurous person hasn't come along yet. :p

Are you using any of the mods or is this all pure SCS original content?

Aside from the tweaks I do by hand to patch a couple of issues this all standard SCS Patch 5 doing its thing. :)
