Heightmap .xml & scspack

Postby bpsucks » Thu Nov 29, 2007 6:32 pm

Hey all, did some searching for a custom heightmap xml and scspack but havent found much of anything (here and at the ea site)..

I have:
New York City.tga
New York City.xml

In:

C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\SimCity Societies\Export

XML says (this is copy/paste random, shouldnt really work I guess):

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!-- User changeable random map parameters -->
<RandomMapTable>
  <Entry name="MaxAmbientUnits" value="48000"/>
  <Entry name="MaxApronAmbientUnits" value="32000"/>
  <Entry name="PreviewMapTerrainTexture" value="1"/>
  <Entry name="MapSize" value="1024"/>
  <Entry name="MinWaterSliderValue" value="0"/>
  <Entry name="MaxWaterSliderValue" value="50"/>
  <Entry name="MinSmoothingSliderValue" value="3"/>
  <Entry name="MaxSmoothingSliderValue" value="25"/>
  <Entry name="MinElevationSliderValue" value="30"/>
  <Entry name="MaxElevationSliderValue" value="70"/>
  <Entry name="MinElevationRangeSliderValue" value="50"/>
  <Entry name="MaxElevationRangeSliderValue" value="120"/>
  <Entry name="ShowAlgorithmControl" value="0"/>
</RandomMapTable>

Run the game and no pack is created.

Anyone have any tips?

SCS Packs

Postby Mike Lattiak » Thu Nov 29, 2007 7:04 pm

Simply placing the XML and height map into the export folder will not create the SCS pack. You'll need to create a new XML which will take all of the files relating to your height map and combine them into a .SCS pack. Here is a quick way to make this happen:

1) Create an XML and name it based off of the pack you are creating. In this case, NewYorkCity_HeightMap.xml would work. Place it in your
C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\SimCity Societies\Export folder.

2) Inside of that XML you'll need to add the following lines:

<Package>
<FileAdd name="Height Maps\New York City.tga" />
<FileAdd name="Data\XMLDb\Game\Random Map\New York City.xml" />
</Package>

Now, what this is doing is looking for those two files in either your mod (all users) or installation directory. If it finds both of the files, it will create the .SCS pack you are looking for. Otherwise, nothing will happen.

You can find documentation on how to do this at http://simcitysocieties.ea.com/help/custom/custom_en.pdf. Look under the section "SCS Packs".

Let me know if you need any more help regarding this manner!

Thanks! I was able to make packs for all my heightmaps.

Can we get access to upload the packs here?

If you wish to post them here, as well as on the EA site, it is recommended to put them in a .zip file. It's what all the cool kids do.

Just out of curiosity Mike, couldn't you folks just turn on the extensions for SCSPack files for your forum to skip a step for the end user? I did it on our own forums simply so that people don't have to bother doing the extra step when it's not saving any disk space by zipping the files.

I just "zipped" one of my scspack files and it's the same exact size as the SCSPack file which in my wierd mind means that the SCSPack file is already compressed just like a zip file would be.

Id like to not have to zip things first.
