CotN Contest - The Restoration

Postby Azeem » Mon Mar 23, 2009 2:57 am

After a long delay, "Children of the Nile" is back in the contest scene. All CotN fans are welcome to play. :D

Play as a confidant of the boy king Tutankhamun's advisors Ay and Horemheb and restore Egypt to greatness.

Note that this scenario requires the CotN Enhanced Edition (basically the latest patch released by Tilted Mill late last year). You do not need "Alexandria" to play. ;)

Story

Setting: 18th Dynasty, Reign of Pharaoh Tutankhamun

The dark days have finally passed; the reign of the defiler, the Heretic King, Akhenaten, has ended. Just as night must give way to day, the dawn at the beginning days of the reign of Pharaoh Tutankhaten marks a renewal. In order to renew ourselves, we must cleanse ourselves of pollution, the pollution wrought by the wicked Heretic. At the wise suggestion of his courtiers, Tutankhaten changed his name to Tutankhamun in honor of the great Amun-Ra, the god whose supremacy was temporarily usurped by the insignificant Aten. Names alone, however, are insufficient to reassure the people of our kingdom. The people, having endured the tyranny of Pharaoh's predecessor may need some convincing about Pharaoh's intentions. Pharaoh Tutankhamun, far from being of age and seriously lacking the experience needed of the great leader, is in dire need of guidance, lest we risk an even further decline of our kingdom.

And so it is with great urgency that Pharaoh's enigmatic yet nonetheless capable advisors, Ay and Horemheb, have urged a campaign of restoration - restoration of the rightful place of the ancient gods so that they may favor us once more. Since it would be most unwise for us to rule from the forsaken city of Akhetaten, both the court and the Priests of Amun, long persecuted by the Heretic, have suggested that the capital be returned to Waset, home of Pharaoh's illustrious ancestors. Waset, as you shall see, is but a shadow of its former greatness, left neglected while the wicked Heretic devised his evil machinations in his mockery of a sacred capital. The sun shall rise over this city once again. And when the sun does rise over Waset, its rays shall gleam far beyond the city's reaches and spread across all the Kingdom!

The mission is clear - we must not only prove ourselves to the people, but also to the gods themselves! As a trusted confidant of Pharaoh's advisors, you are to carry out the necessary tasks to bring us back to the path of greatness and prosperity.

SCENARIO GOAL:

-Re-establish Karnak.

Rules

Completion Criteria:
-Normal Level: Final save MUST be in Peret season of the year 1319 BC.
-Hard Level: Final save MUST be in Peret season of the year 1321 BC.

Winning Criteria:
-Prestige Level and Points: Prestige points are calculated based on Prestige points by the time of the last save on Peret of 1321 or 1321 depending on the difficulty level. Basically, the score will be players' total prestige multiplied by 2. Finishing Karnak gives a 75-point bonus. Speed of completing Karnak is another bonus - 1st is 25 points, 2nd is 15 points, 3rd is 10 points, and 4th is 5 points.

Designer's Notes

IMPORTANT NOTES [PLEASE READ FIRST!]:

-Achieving victory is NOT required! This contest can be won without actually opening Karnak.
-Opening Karnak, however, will give you a 75-point bonus to your final score. Additional bonus points are awarded according to players' speed: 25 points for 1st, 15 points for 2nd, 10 points for 3rd, 5 points for 4th.
-If you do choose to open Karnak, you must save BEFORE the victory screen and save the file under (YourName)_Restoration_(DifficultyLevel)_PreVictory.
-The main save must be named (YourName)__Restoration_(DifficultyLevel)_Complete.
-In other words, if you choose to do Karnak, you will be uploading at least 2 saves on CBC: one save for completing Karnak and the other save on the assigned time.

Forgot to mention one other thing -

Avoid playing the game in the "Alexendria" mini-expansion. "Alexandria" automatically converts the file so that it is readable only in "Alexandria", meaning that it'll crash in the "CotN: Enhanced Edition." I do have "Alexandria", but it's just more convenient to have everything in the same format. ;)

Contest end-date will be changed to a later date since some players noted that they're a bit busy this month. I might have it moved to May 29th.

Ah, but there are a lot of other contests going on. one for Hinterland, the exiting team event for C4, and I have an offering for C3. There are often contests for Poseidon, Emporer, SCS, Pharoah/Cleopatra, Zeus, and we had one for Nile Online. I think that it is a lot of fun downloading and playing an old contest. Then you can look at some of the winning entries.

IF you want more of Azeem's confections, lure him by participating. No one assigns contest games to the designers at CBC. They keep making new maps/puzzles when others participate.

this is really a great game!! i hope they make more campaings and even more expansion, it should be good if there more monuments to build with the overseers and laborers, just like Pharaoh/Cleopatra.. another good expansion should be a way to carry material between 2 piece of land separate by water, like a local barge landing :) .. and that that beer and wine be visible, i always wonder how much beer r they drinking :)

keep goint with these contest :) plz!

Argh! Will have to get my nose to grindstone! My first attempt went way over the time limit but I persevered to explore the potentialities of it. Now to go back and pick up earlier and do different.....
