Yes! Remember to turn every building so that it faces a space or road. Also remember that landings need to stick out into DEEP water.

Use your first priest as a "teacher" always. These will train students from the noble townhouses and luxury shops and when they graduate you can use them to become other priests, overseers, commanders.

Make a lot of bricks. You will need them for everything in your city, especially mastaba tombs, statues, and obelisk bases which will help raise your pretige level.

Open trade routes on the world map when you have your industries setup in your city.

Don't run out of food. Grain is food and "money" in this game. Without it your people will starve and won't be able to buy the goods they want from the common and luxury shops. So don't trade all your food away on your trade routes.

Tutorials 1-3 in order & then play them again. Then Son of Ra in your Play a Scenario section.

Then Hit the campaign (you will play the campaign three times). All 5 Easy scenarios, then 5 Moderate, finally 5 Hard.

Good Luck! :)

PS ~ Patch the game ===> v1.3.01

Yep, play the tutorials maybe even twice so you really get it.

What were you doing to get the invalid directory message?

Nope. I have the demo installed also.

Are you on the correct drive? It sounds like you need to adjust the pathway.

I would check your install paths and see if you can adjust the update path. Unfortunately I do not remember the default paths to the demo or the CD version.

You have installed the CD version before you tried updating right? ;) just checking because I have had this problem before where I downloaded the patch while the game was installing and the patch tried to start right away. Probably because I told it to update thinking the install was completed.

It should not be because of the demo but you could try un-installing the demo so you only have the CD version installed but as Tink said that's probably not it.

If it keeps happening try the help section and maybe one of the techies can help you out.

good luck!

The demo and game install to separate folders so having them both should not be a problem. Both will bein the c:\Program Files\Tilted Mill\ folder on your computer.

If this a disc version of the game from Myelin game publishers or the Sega version which was sold overseas you will need separate patches, IIRC.

The Sega version requires a patch written for that version (non-U.S.) export version of the game. You may have to obtain the patch from Sega.

The Myelin versions which sold in the U.S. uses the patch that is on the CotN homepage.

If you try to install the patch for the Myelin version on a Sega version or vice versa it won't work and will generally say something about a invalid version or directory path.

The U.S. version of the game installs it's files to c:\Program Files\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile while the Sega version uses a slightly different path which I think is c:\Program Files\Sega\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile

Ok, then check your path c:\Program Files\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile to see if the game files are installed there.

Where did you get your patch file from?

TM used an unusual naming convention. To place the building, you use the name of the people that will live there.

But ... not always! That's the unusual part. ;)
