ok lets go through the long list-

1) when you click on it, any spinner on windows or anything? Click on the bottom task bar on Windows, right click and select "start task manager" if it doesn't show up under applications tab, try processes, do you see it?

2) check here C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\SimCity™ Societies (if you have a 32 bit system take out the (x86) in that line and lets try to start it by .exe, does it work now?

3) Reboot the computer and try again

4) Check the event log in windows or event viewer, its in control panel , i can't give exact directions because all the windows versions keep it somewhere different. Check and see if there is any errors regarding SCS. Copy and paste here.

5) Still nothing, then i guess you got to reinstall.

If this is a disc version of the game and not a digital download version, and none of the above steps works try the following:

1. With the disc in the drive, right-click on the actual game .EXE file in the install folder on your hard drive.

2. From the right-click menu select "Launch Analysis" and let the program run.

3. Locate the AnalysisLog.sr0 file that is created in your main root hard drive folder (directory), C:\.

4. Use a program like WinZip to zip that file up and create a email addressed to support@securom.com with a title of "SimCities Societies". Give a brief description of the problem and attach the zipped file to that email and send it.

5. They will examine the file and get back to you.

Note: I don't have SCS. So I don't know if the game uses SecuROM security software on the disc, but if it does the above steps should be followed. If you don't see "Launch Analysis" on the right-click list then it probably doesn't use SecuROM and the above steps won't work.

I have the exact same problem, downloaded from EA - after hours of re-installing and updating and trying to talk with EA (they were being useless all day) I am still in the same spot - I have no error message - it just does nothing.

same problem here as well. Here's what I've noticed so far:

With Task Manager open and looking at the Processes tab, I attempt to launch the game. EACoreServer.exe comes up. SimCitySocieties.exe comes up and then immediately goes away. EACoreSever.exe sticks around for about 8 seconds and then also goes away.

That's it. Nothing else happens. I downloaded & installed via digital copy. Win Vista 32-bit.

I'm having the same issue with SimCity not doing anything. It shows up in the task manager, then disappears within seconds. Here's the only information I managed to track down:

Possible solution!

Postby Tyrnn » Sat Jan 30, 2010 7:23 pm

I looked through the path, and it turns out that the 'trademark' symbol in my directory was causing the snafu. If you installed the game with the trademark symbol in the directory, try uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but without the ™ in the installation path. That fixed my problem.

same issue with the download...

Postby T-Web » Sun Jan 31, 2010 5:21 am

I'm having the same issue as the others. I downloaded from ea and everything seemed to have installed just fine, however when i click on the game to play, nothing happens.

I will try the "tm" advice and let you know if it works...

I do not represent "Tilted Mill" so the advice is unofficial.

Keith, I think he was referring to the advice of removing the "trademark" symbol that gets tacked onto the folder name.

Your suggestion did the trick for me. The games now working again :)
It's strange that the game worked until it installed an update then stopped, but removing the TM from the file name worked.

Thanks!

John

I'm on W7 Home Premium 64 now, having gotten courage to upgrade from my beloved Vista Home Premium 64. About installing SCS/Destinations from the box disk version.

Should I go ahead & delete the TM logo in the install pathway or try it w/o changing it?

"TM logo in the install path"?

Unless you are saving something, it might be a good idea to uninstall and resintall the game, but should not be necessary.

You can try it now as-is to see if any new problems have arisen from the Windows upgrade. If you are happy with the way it runs, then leave it.

I was reading this thread, Keith. Perhaps it is only on certain computers or only on 32 bit computers.

I was wondering how widespread it was. It looks like a rare problem or we would hear more yelling & screaming.

I'll probably just let it do a normal install & trust TM.

EDIT: My W7 is a clean install. The upgrade was a disaster & the pros blamed the upgrade, when it turned out that it was the graphics driver that I had to roll back. The driver from ASUS (W7 upgrade disk #2) & also the one from windows update, made my W7 freeze on rare occassions. NVidia has some work to do. ;)

REEDIT: So much for scary threads. Default install pathway with the TM logo worked fine. Install fine, gameplay fine. Yummy! :)

Heya!

I just registered here to say thanks and add something. Your hint with the ™ really did the trick for me, so I'm very grateful for finally being able to play the game (whose demo I tried before purchasing the digital download of this game did not have this issue, interestingly).

Do note, however, that uninstalling/reinstalling is not required to fix this problem. I just changed the folder name and removed the ™ there, and now the game runs perfectly. Just thought I'd point this out here, as it may save other people some trouble and time. :)

Take care, all!

*tabs back into the game to finally start playing*

THANK YOU !!!

This solved it for me as well.

Uninstall, reinstall but make sure you remove the symbol character from the install path.

Kudos.. Nice find. ;)
