[MOD] Ticket Booth

Postby Azeem » Sun Jan 24, 2010 6:31 am

Anothe one of pcgamer's requests. This is a modified "Secret Police Kiosk" to look like an amusement park ticket booth. Kind of wierd making something so sinister into something cutesy, but then again, the idea of a "Secret Police" Kiosk was wierd to begin with. ;)

It took me a while to figure out that there was another line of coding needed to make the "ticket" icon appear for the building. :o

Hello Azeem

First and foremost, many thanks for all of your really nice mods :)
(I've been bad as I did not leave any feedback but I promise I'll do it from now on !)

No problem at all with this one in particular; it's super-cute!

But, for the life of me, I can't get the name to show up.
Now, with all your other mods that I have, no problem,
I did the trick of copying the Localization file from the mod folder
to the game install one (en_us to en_uk)

For this one, the Ticket_Booth_BuildingText.xml is in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SimCity Societies\DataXP1\Localization\en_us\objecttext

So I copied it in the game install folder for en_uk, so it's in:
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SimCity™ Societies\DataXP1\Localization\en_uk\ObjectText

Yet the name still won't show!
I've tried to place it in the other game install 'Localization ' folders, still no luck.
And I have the same minor name problem your CyberpunkPark.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm running out of option :)

Many thanks in advance if you can help !

One other thing to try is to copy the Localization text descriptions in the modded files and copy them into the list of the original file.

Instead of placing it your DataXP1 folder (which is the destinations expansion folder), see if it works when placed in the original game localization folder.
It should be something like
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SimCity™ Societies\Data\Localization\

I had this problem, and found out that the cause is the localization files themselves.

Did you try copying the text to the game's original localization file?

No, however when I opened the localization file it looked something like this:

<BuildingTextTable>
<BuildingID"Hanaro Mart"/>

<Name_Plural>Hanaro Marts</Name_Plural>
<Descrription>Not that different from an American market, but with some Korean color.

</Building>
<BuildingTextTable>

And I am sure that this is the problem.

It should be <Building id="(whatever the building name is)">. If you have my updated Korean BuildingText.xml, then all the Korean-themed buildings use that specific XML (meaning that the individual Hanaro Mart localization XML is redundant).

Also, if the XML coding is correct yet it doesn't show up in the game, then try consolidating all of the building text coding into a single file.

Hello guys

Thanks for your answers.
I did try what you both (Azeem and Midrealm) suggested and it did not work

Then I saw what you mentioned, R8-Q88.
So I edited the Ticket_Booth_BuildingText.xml just to see; So I have
<BuildingTextTable>

<Building id="Ticket Booth">

<Name_Plural>Ticket Booths</Name_Plural>

A Ticket Booth for your fun fair.

</Building>

</BuildingTextTable>

I copied the file as I did originally, from
the mods folder \DataXP1\Localization\en_us\objecttext
to
the game install folder \DataXP1\Localization\en_uk\ObjectText

And it worked !

So I tried to do the same for your CyberpunkPark (bench and tree)

I changed the SCSXP2_BuildingText.xml (which is actually what R8-Q88 quoted in the previous post) so it reads :
<BuildingTextTable>

<Building id="Crystal Tree">

<Name_Plural>Crystal Trees</Name_Plural>

A crystal tree for your cyberpunk city.

</Building>

<Building id="Futuristic Bench">

<Name_Plural>Futuristic Benches</Name_Plural>

A futuristic bench for your cyberpunk city.

</Building>

</BuildingTextTable>

I don't know anything about XML editing, just trying to mimic the syntax of files which I know work, so please bear with me :)

Doing that, I could only get the tree name to appear...
So I guess I'm getting there :p

I actually have the same problem with the Ticket Booth... and a few others. and I do have the latest Korean file, and all Localization files are copied into each and every possible location... root game, imported game folders... everywhere I can think of, lol. Destination folders (although my Destination does not work). As I said, every location.

I remember vaguely that some other players couldn't get it either.

But hey, is a pretty building and is not a problem if it has no Building ID in the pre-view. and seeing that I don't know the names of the other buildings it's a bit difficult to say what their names are. The Building ID in the .xml files and the actual ID name in the pre-views are not the same.. for those buildings that do work, this means it's a bit impossible to tell which are good and which aren't, as some buildings might not even have unpacked when the mod was installed... if that makes any sense. :confused:

but I love all the mods and am always happy when they work for me.

One little tip Pearlyneus, the building id "Futuristic Bench" should look like "Futuristic_Bench" otherwise its localization won't work.

Thanks a lot R8-Q88 !
This solved the problem and I have both names (crystal tree and futuristic bench) showing up!
Strangest thing is for the crystal tree, the building id "Crystal Tree" does work!
But I'm happy as I'm learning a lot!

Thanks again !

Ok, the building ID for the ticket booth is simply "Ticket Booth", and it works for me, so I don't know what's wrong with yours. :confused:

ok I know nothing about any of this, but how would the program know that Hanaro Markt and Ticket Booth is the same? in the Korean Building Text.xml it's like this

<Building id="Hanaro Mart">

<Name_Plural>Hanaro Marts</Name_Plural>

Not that different from an American market, but with a Korean color.

</Building>

how does it then know to write Ticket Booth in the pre-view window?

On the other hand I can't reconcile a few of the other Korean Buildings in that text either lolol. But I have some pretty cool buildings, just that I don't know what some of them are for, I just place them, 'cause I like them, :) :p

It doesn't. The Hanaro Mart is a totally different building. Change the text to the one PeaRLyNeuS posted above.

don't know which text you mean to add for the Booth, sorry Azeem, but PeaRLyNeuS does not have the text for the Ticket Booth Showing either.

Anyway not a train smash, it shows up in the pre-view, just does not have text.

sorry, I was under the impression that Hanaro is the Ticket Booth. I don't have that one then, checked the Portrait files, not in there.

I notice that I only have some of the Korean stuff, most of it is missing, have some with the ID text and some without and the rest is missing.

If you ever do zip files for all your Korean Bldgs, I stand first in line to download :)

This one in PeaRLyNeuS's previous post:

<BuildingTextTable>

<Building id="Ticket Booth">

<Name_Plural>Ticket Booths</Name_Plural>

A Ticket Booth for your fun fair.

</Building>

</BuildingTextTable>

Hanaro Mart refers to something else completely different; I wasn't aware that I included the wrong text for the Ticket Booth.

that's what I said, was my mistake to think the Hanora is the Ticket Booth.

I also said I had the Ticket Booth text File...BUT neither PeaRLyNeuS nor my Ticket Booth come up with the ID text.. look

Thanks a lot R8-Q88 !
This solved the problem and I have both names (crystal tree and futuristic bench) showing up!

[COLOR="Red"]And still no luck for the Ticket Booth name either

you can see that from my screen shot I did for the Brick Homes for you.

so that's just one of those things.

And as I said if you ever do single zip files for all your buildings, I'd love to have them :)
