The day has finally arrived!

Postby Chris Beatrice » Fri Jul 11, 2008 3:58 pm

After… wow, some fifteen odd years (and believe me, most of them have been pretty odd…) and 40+ games for me, we are finally in a position to release our first truly independent game! What does “independent” really mean? It means we are not beholden to any outside party and can do whatever the heck we want! Woo hoo!!

Ok, back down to earth – what it really means is that we are directly dependent on you, our fans, and anyone who has ever or may every buy one of our games. Hinterland is of course a much smaller effort in terms of available resources than most of the games we’ve made in the recent past. This allows us to focus on what gamers like you really want, and to be much more agile in terms of responding to (and incorporating) your valuable feedback both before and after the game officially becomes available. Over time, with your ongoing support, it’ll continue to evolve and grow.

There’s been some speculation based on our teaser of just what exactly Hinterland is… lots of great ideas coming in already… some appropriate for this game, some not quite. In the coming days and weeks you’ll get a clearer picture of what Hinterland is, and we’ll continue to listen.

So, once again, welcome, thanks for coming, and let’s get talking!!

*squeals like a schoolgirl*

This sounds like fun! Whens the beta-testing going to start! hehe :D

My first questions:

Can you play as female characters, and are the figures like Cotn or are they more like the old Pharaoh games?

*bounces beside dream* Yeah, when's the beta? lol! :D From the sounds of the site, there may not be a beta forthcoming...

I love the sound of the game!!! Finally something truly original, and one of the best features listed so far...RANDOM MAPS to maximize replayability!! That's a feature I always beg for. Also noted it will be a very low cost game, available through a download. Have to agree with TM with the need for brand new, innovative gameplay. I'm sick of the eye candy with lack of content companies are pushing out by the dozens, with TV and movie themes. The RPG market has taken huge hits trying to compete with consoles, and most games I've tried on the consoles didn't keep me hooked and awake for days playing it like old school rpgs did. Kudos to TM for taking their development where it should be, into NEW areas!

I cannot wait to play this! :D :D

It sounds awesome! I previously had no idea how a RPG/city builder might operate, but you guys make it sound like a very fun and engaging game, which I'm sure it'll be. Thanks for taking the time to make a game which looks innovative in every possible way!

Just wanted to say congratulations on becoming independent!

I've been following you guys since the days of Impressions Games and have always enjoyed your work. Keep it up!

I hope this means that Hinterland will be available on Steam? Great service of choice by the way. Steam is excellent.

Registered just to say WOW; this looks awsome!

Totally agree on the random map being brilliant.

Not too sure on the 6 hours per game but, seems a little light.

With the random map, Im hoping that its not like Hellgate London. That game was good, but by level 12 I was starting to see the same maps from the "random" generator!

I own most of your games and must say this one has a very nice setting!

Wonder how you will set it up! I'm quite sure already I won't be able to not get this game, if only because I want to support you guys staying on your own feet!

Considering what's at stake I'm quite sure this firstborn is going to be REALLY good!

I'll buy the game based on this passage alone

Fantastic news :D Hinterland sounds like a great game. er.....when did you say beta testing was coming out? <insert innocent batting of the eyelashes smiley>

great looking screen shots. and only $20 through download....I'm ready!

Hinterland designers must have worked overtime in a secret location with a contract that says "talk about it and die" to keep it under wraps so long.

And so the rabid TM/City Builder fanbase gathers at the office doors anxiously calling out for the release date of the beta-testing...

"Call out the town guard! The militia is need to beat back the fanboys and girls!"
Cames the cry from inside.
"But all we have is devs and some folding chairs and... pencils!"
"It'll have to do!"
