Hinterland Beta Test!

Postby Reed » Tue Aug 26, 2008 5:35 pm

If you're interested in helping test Hinterland and our other forthcoming games, head on over to the Insider signup form to put your hat into the ring.

We are planning on accepting a new batch of testers later this week or thereabouts.

This is why I should keep a copy of my home systems' DXDIAG file on my work computer--so I can apply for betas 6 hours earlier than I might be able to otherwise. ;)

I can totally agree with this comment. I have been looking forward to them posting something about a beta since I found this forum, and now I can't do anything about it till I get home for work :(

Hehe, I saw that, too. The Sims is so big, it now gets its own genre title. No use railing against it, I have decied. It ain't goin' nowhere.

Good luck to TM in their beta work, and good luck beta tester hopefuls who've applied. I can only hope that those that do get chosen do a better "job" than many I've seen in past betas...I think we all know those people; the ones who cry foul if there's a wipe (mmo reference, of course) or just play and never submit notes regarding bugs or play problems, just looking for an "early release", more or less.

I'm not saying anyone here would do this. I'm just saying it's prevalent in the industry and I hope that those who get chosen are ones who broach the subject with the responsibility it is.

Again, good luck, hopefuls. :)

I am sure those non-contributors are expected and planned for. I am not sure, however, the same volume of that caliber of tester would have any interest in signing up for the Hinterland Beta.

Remember Tilted Mill is making an investment in their testers. As a newly independent company, they need folks who work, not folks who sponge on them for a free preview. If you apply, expect to really work for them.

/rant One of my bug is to be in a test and see the freeloaders who take space that could have gone to others who might have given some feedback.

Unfortunately a lot of people are all about themselves instead of giving back to the community. The same goes for joining a beta and saying you will do all this testing and give feedback then just play it and not help out at all. It's frustrating, but there isnt much you can do about it unfortunately. I hope all those that apply and get chosen do their best to help make this game great. I have high hopes for it.

Beta testing, the best thing to happen to gaming since 3d... :)

Postby fleshtonegolem » Wed Aug 27, 2008 7:48 am

I really think companies that don't beta test really miss out on a ton of free feedback and the collective ideas and the creativity of the beta testers.

Not to name drop, but I've been playing and beta testing Mount and Blade since .601 and it has been improved immensely from the thriving passionate community of testers and mods makers.

It's only going to make a game better to have it beta tested. It's a win win for everyone involved. :)
