Not with a DRM like they have...I won't buy it until that changes.

Nope, playing Age of wonders SM (with the Brave new world mod mainly), Steel Panthers world at war email game and a weekly NWN2 campaign.

How is spore?

Its nice for a while but not good enough yet IMO.

All around it's a fun game if you enjoy making stuff and watching it go. Serious gamers that want something strategically challenging with a lot of layers of complexity will be disappointed. The Space phase is fun and you can kill hours and hours dinking around with it, but in the end the game play is pretty simple and you can max out just about everything and have done it all in about 15 hours.

I'm enjoying it though. The content creation is awesome. Only real downsides~

-The Tribal and Civ phases are a joke in terms of game play and replayability.
-Planets barely save any detail from terraforming. If you create too much land or too much water, the game resets 90% of the planet surface. Is really disappointing.

As was said, If you like to create stuff and see it in game, it is wonderful.

I think that it's a really fun game myself.

I've had a hard time getting to the galatic stage because I want to start over before I beat the Civ phase.

To make sense evolutionary wise I would have liked to see a phase between the initial want phase and land phase.

Something where you could have played a shark or eel.

I have found a few design flaws. One planet constantly defaults to a tribal location with some huge f'ing rocks right in the middle of your village.

It's so bad you can't see your creature pen or hut.

Damn good demo...Been a while since I was able to burn an entire night just playing through a demo once. Not sure if I'll pick up the game or not though.

uninstall the demo in disgust

The game require certain kind of graphic card (better than 128mb, support shader2.0...). Mine is barely adequate... then it turn out that it's not. Get in the first stage, but before we on the way to the quest, CTD without fanfare.

Two days to wrestle with it... buggerit for a game of soldier!

rummage in the heap of CD for Silent Storms

Yep I'm playing Spore at the moment. Actually this is my third game (having stopped at the beginning of the Space Stage with my other two species).

Agreed with a couple of comments saying the "game" is great if you're into creating content, but a lot like another Maxis the game (The Sims) it's really a sandbox game so hardcore gamers that like having objectives or being able to say they've achieved something, my feel a bit empty or bored playing it. I'm already getting annoyed by the grind required to level your captain in the Space Phase - I actually preferred the earlier phases (but they went by waaaay to quickly - 2 hours? Come on!)

Agreed that EA's choice of DRM is despicable, but unfortunately some of my favourite developers (Maxis - a fan since SimCity the original, Bioware - a fan since Baldur's Gate, EALA (formerly Westwood Studios) - a fan since Dune 2) are under their umbrella - so on one hand I want to support those awesome developers but on the other, don't want to pay to support a horrendous DRM scheme.

a fan since Dune 2

Enemy APPROACHING.

The length and breadth of the Civ and Tribal phases were a serious disappointment to me. I wish more of the game was intuitively fun like the cell stage. I guess it's easier to make something truly interesting in 2d than it is in 3d.

I heard Spore put out a patch to remove the RDM as it was causing so much angst.

They're going to weaken the DRM a bit, but not remove it. I've also heard that they are going to include the possibility of using up to 5 screen names, for family members playing the game. Nothing of that is yet available, that is, not included in patch 1.01 which we have already seen for Spore.
