Pause

Postby Bolgo The Madd » Thu Oct 02, 2008 3:34 pm

I appreciate that the game pauses when I'm looting.
It would be nice if the game paused when I'm talking to an NPC ( In town only ).
Frequently, while I'm considering NPC upgrades and services raiders show up.
Ugh... Then my NPC runs off or dies.

It is a little nerve wracking to feel the time ticking away; days dawning, raiders showing up, and not yet hired NPCs getting ready to leave town.
I actually want to read the text... but where is the time!?

Just smack the space bar any time you open your follower window. I like that it doesn't automatically pause. Sometimes, I want to browse while letting time progress so people can continue to heal while I think about what I'm doing next or while I'm browsing.

I've been playing HardCore Large, and never realized SpaceBar = Pause...
Thank you so much.

Yeouch. I'm not sure I could dial it in without pause, when you decide to upgrade 20 villagers' equipment, you need time to think.

I really need to read the manual. So, you can pause...I'll have to try that. :)

You can't pause while talking to NPCs... my initial post stands.

Trolls are everywhere!
I have no time to figure out what my Herder's upgrades are...
Something about finding a dragons egg for him?

GREAT FIND!

If you pause THEN use the followers button you CAN talk to your NPCs and be paused!

This may buy me enough time to get my farmer militia into shape!

Ok.

I wish the game would auto-pause while I talk to an NPC,
if I talk to them without going through the followers button, and they are in town.
Meaning, I've taken the time to personally walk up to their house and select them.

It would be nice to not feel the clock tick while I consider the NPC options.
Plus, I like walking around my town and seeing how the layout turned out.
Exclusively using the followers button prevents me from seeing most artwork.

With raiders enabled, it becomes a pause and unpause affair to manage the town.
It takes a few hours to get a system down that minimizes time spent and maximizes town management efficiency.
My suggestion would primarily benefit new players.

This could even be an options setting, for those players who believe it is of greater benefit to let time pass (collect income) while they speak to NPCs.

Why don't you just press pause before you talk to people?

Really, it is that simple.

Press pause and then talk to your NPCs.

Simple.

Hmm....

I keep trying to do that. But it doesn't work,
unless you want to talk to them through the followers button.
Which is how I've been doing it.

But because I'm doing it that way,
I never walk around my town.

Don't you think my suggestion (above) would reduce the micro?
Maybe help new players too?

No, because sometimes I don't want the game to pause.

A lot of times I am waiting to heal, and do NOT want the game to pause.

You absolutely can pause the game and talk to NPCs.

The only thing you can't do while paused is place new buildings.

But everything else will work one way or another paused.

I prefer pause to be optional.

I would like to see the game pause automatically in a few places...

1) When speaking to a NPC in town
2) When townsfolk management screen is open (the one that shows all your characters in town with equipment)
3) When town management screen is open

You don't need to go and find an NPC to talk to them, just do it through the Followers Button. I only go visit my dragon farm, when I have one, to mouse over my dragon and see how old it is. :D
