Both Sides of the River

Postby OhhJim » Fri Sep 12, 2008 3:59 pm

It seems pretty obvious that in the first map, you need to have a presence on both sides of the river (I hope that's not a spoiler). I've never done this, before. I'm trying to make both sides self-supporting, as much as possible. I figure that with the basalt quarry, I can up my prestige with statues fairly quickly, which will allow for priests on both sides of the Nile.

Any thoughts, advice on doing this?

I have completed the first level of Alexandria campaign building everything on the side of the river where the basalt quarry lies. I had 10 nobles and tons of brick makers. :D

Didn't it take forever to get emeralds? Or did you get emeralds?

The labourers go across the river in fishing boats. It's slow at first. Remember to set a reserve on emeralds so the jewelers don't grab them all as they're being harvested! Also may help to locate your labourer huts facing the direction of the mine.

Actually, I finished a week ago, but thanks. As I suspected, it was a little dicey, trying to maintain a presence on both sides, but it worked out ok. I found that both overseers and laborers crossed the river fairly quickly, so I could have done it from just one side. I feel that making buildings on both sides was a better test of skill-a higher difficulty, if you will! :D

Overseers and laborers are much more efficient after 1.3 patch. They go pretty long distances and they still work !!!
