The game is obscenely slow.

Ok. I was a little generous when I say "game". I just purchased this on Steam and as soon as I ran it it took a while for the logos to appear. I dismissed this and made my character and got to the loading screen.

That's as far as I've gotten. On my first try I literally 38 minutes loading the game world before I gave up and tried to start over but to no avail.

After looking through some forum posts I've found no such post with this problem and decided to save you some time and post my dxdiag straight off.

I have a similar problem, takes forever to get game to start after picking job, pic and name then it takes forever to create world and whatever else it does. alt-tabbing during this process is the only way to even get progress on the create world screen and the following creations. it hangs up on enemy placement and never goes beyond this.

Edit: your own support forum wont accept .log file uploads?

third and for now final console.log file since renaming, resaving, copying the .log text into a fresh txt file doesn't work for me. sorry, been trying to get game to work for about 4 hours now and I just don't have the patience to figure out this upload problem since I dont see any stickies on forums about proper procedures

First, let me say that I do not have Hinterland, but it should be similar to CotN and Caesar IV in overall design.

The only thing I see in your dxdiag.txt file that could use updating is the sound driver. It's from 2006.

There is a chance that these old drivers could be causing the slow loading of the game. You can try disabling these sound drivers from the Hardware Device Manager menu to see if it is the cause of the problem without making any permanent changes to your system.

You can get there by right-clicking on the My Computer icon on the desktop or on the START menu.

Choose Properties.

Choose the Hardware tab and click the Device Manger button.

Find the Sound, video and game controlers section. Click on the '+' to expand the list.

Find the listing for the Realtek HD Audio output and right-click on that item.

Select Disable.

Close the menu and reboot the computer.

Try the game. If it loads up right away its your sound system giving you the problem.

You can re-enable the sound by doing the above steps and selecting Enable from the list then rebooting the computer.

If the game loads, update your sound drivers to a newer version. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to do this properly. Don't just install the new version over the old.

zemog, it seems like the game is having a lot of issues with your video setup.

The log seems to indicate that you are running the game in a windowed mode, but the window you want to run it in is larger than the desktop resolution you have set.

You may want to try either increasing your desktop resolution to one equal to or greater than the size of the window you want to run the game in or use a smaller window to run the game in.

You didn't attach a copy of your dxdiag.txt file so I can't tell if there are any other issues.
