Nile Online Wiki

Postby Reed » Fri Jan 09, 2009 8:27 pm

Hey all, we've put up a Wiki for Nile Online.

http://www.immortalcities.com/nileonline/wiki/

Nothing really there yet, but we're hoping that many of our knowledgeable and helpful beta testers will start adding to it!

Once there's some content in there, it'll be linked directly from the game.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps contribute!

Is the Wiki part of Wikipedia or do I have to register to edit the page?

No, it isn't. You have to register separately. It just uses the Wikipedia template. (which is free to use)

Ah very good, I shall see what I can contribute.

Question: Does NPOV apply to this Wiki?

Hey Reed, is there a possibility of using the pictures from http://www.playnileonline.com in the wiki?

I was thinking that something like: ...[[Image:figures_juggle.gif]] ... would make the juggler image pop up... but I think it has to be uploaded into the wiki first... (users can't do that)

Neutral point of view... meaning "don't inject opinions into your articles".

Well I didn't know what NPOV was but I am clearly naive because "don't inject opinions into your articles" just seemed obvious common sense to me for a guide aimed at a diverse player base, who can have polar opposite views.

One of the reasons my "Temples what they do and how to thread" has never made it past the confines of my head onto the forum, I keep rewriting it mentally to try and neutralise my "temples and donating to them is a good thing" bias.

Often, if you want to put in a set of strategies for dealing with donations, you can use "Some people think that the best way to ...". In Wikipedia, of course, you must cite the opinions. You wouldn't need to cite it in the Nile Online wiki unless it's total rubbish, as in "some people think that cities should stay at level 15".

Hey all

Aga is right you need to enable file uploads - you can find details on this here. You should also import the help pages from mediawikis own site, this page has the details but it has to be an admin who does it.

It might be nice to have some larger images too as the juggler is a tad diminutive ;)

If you want to learn more about NPOV or wikis in general I would recommend the excellent Meatball wiki - their NPOV page is here.
