p.s. did you try the blackjack ? :D

Yes I did. I actually made more money on that then I did on the Slot Machine type games. I did the techniquue where you keep doubling your bets as you win and tripled the 100 or so I was playing with (but then as usually happens a run of bad probability wipes out all the gains...)

I actually ran it up and back down several times and that 100 I started with would have accounted for more than 1000 towards the 'transaction' statistics they mention.

Actually, I found little else of interest to do there after randomly wandering around looking at buildings and scenic arrangements. Every time Im there the concentrations of people seems to be sitting in the casinos (getting the pittance of free money) and most not talking. I saw magnitudes more conversations and activity in games like Ultima Online.

Most of the place is devoid of things that might maintain interest. It really is just one big chat room with some pretty props.

I'm a little bit awaite in my opinion on SL.
The first time I got lost and didn't know the propper tools................... some people weren't that friendly (as when you are somewere for the first time in Real Life) but I try not to take that personal.

As for it in real it's also hard to make new friends..................
The same in SL. So for now I intend to make new friends and will see where it will bring me. Soem of this TM forum are very willing to help!!! ;)
If you're only in for a gamble then you aren't talking to anyone else...................... the same in real I don't think you make a lot of new friends behind the slotmachines of Vegas??????? :D

The C4 place is AbFab! It's something TM should be proud of. This is a great place to advertise the game and the forum. And it could be much, much more.........
People in SL like to wander around and that means publicity...........

I intend to believe what KF says. Sl is what you expect it to be.............. but you'll need your "own" personality to make it happen.

This is the short list that the author offers. The author, John Coate was one of the first moderators on one of the first online communities in the world, "The Well" in San Francisco.

Principles of Cyberspace Innkeeping
. The currency is human attention. Work with it. Discourage abuse of it.
. You are in the relationship business.
. Welcome newcomers. Help them find their place.
. Show by example.
. Strive to influence and persuade.
. Have a big fuse. Never let the bottom drop out.
. Use a light touch. Don't be authoritarian.
. Affirm people. Encourage them to open up.
. Expect ferment. Allow some tumbling.
. Don't give in to tyranny by individual or group.
. Leave room in the rules for judgment calls.
. Encourage personal and professional overlap.
. Think "tolerance."

Regarding dealing with griefers he has two simple rules of thumb:
. It's not OK to be a jerk
. Leave room for judgement calls

silly, silly man, thinking such things as "forts" would stop women.

a wink, a giggle, and a shorter skirt and we're in.

then of course, once we're in, we have the brains to run it properly.

Mark, as we learn from Asterix, in this case you will have to build both a luxury and an exotic market :D

I hadnt see a 'Playboy Club' there (I did see a mall selling Xena-Wear somewhere in there). Is it an official Playboy sanctioned operation or is there a case for copyright infringement????

The 'pretty' props I was refering to was the scenery and various objects (I still havent seen the documentation on how to import the more common 3D file formats, but then I havent really tried too hard.) Some people have very nice arrangements (most dont) but there is a general lack of interaction (and most of that is usually an advertisement of some kind). The idea has a long way to go yet.

I did see an announcement saying that their viewer is now OpenSource, and I might go and take a look at the source code to see how it works.

No interaction????

When you generally walk on the street you don't get much of it either

You've got to socialise and meet your friends.......................... you'll need friends at first indeed.................. ..............................
