Windows and Daylight Savings Time change

Postby Keith » Thu Feb 15, 2007 8:01 am

Remember that those of us that change our clocks to daylight savings time will be doing so 3 weeks earlier this year on March 11 instead of April 2. This means that your current Windows install will not automatcially change the time for you. Some of you will have to change your timezone like those in Indiana where the state has decided to go on DST for the entire state instead of staying on eastern time.

You can update Windows XP SP2 automatic DST settings with update KB931836 which is available for download from the Windows Update site as part of the regular Windows updates or you can download the patch seperately.

You can read about the changes to Windows DST and how it effects applications here.

Does this apply to those less fortunate that are stuck with W98SE? :o

You'll probably have to change your time settings manually since Win98 isn't supported any more.

Only for American users I am guessing as I have heard nothing of it from Europe.

Spear you're right in Belgium ,and I guess in the rest of Europe too, it will be in the last weekend of March.
This means the 25th of March.

You sure about this, Keith? I just had ELEVEN Windows auto-updates last night.

PS ~ I also had to allow IE7 to phone home through my Firewall, when I booted this morning, so Bill Gates could rape me again. ;)

Yes, but since you got your updates you probably have the DST update too.

You can check by opening the Control Panel then ADD/REMOVE Software and check the box at the top to "Show Updates." If you see KB931836 on the list you have the DST update.

Every time I hear someone say to use an 'Free Online Scan' (ie- for virusi and usually on a Microshoddy site) I shudder. I have no doubt that the info is going onto a database that is to be used for marketing or more nefarious uses (and a suprising amount of personal info can be found in the registry...)

I have fun sometimes saying that when you see that little green or red light ON on your monitor it means that Bill Gates is watching you.......

Weird. I know I read wodinoneeye's last post at least a week ago, and it appeared again today as "new."

this will only work if you made the last post and the thread is "dead"

#1 edit your final post and copy all the text
#2 delete the post
#3 post a reply and paste the text from the original post

the only thing this does is bump the thread and appear like there was no double posting... I see no point to this besides to catch attention
