Great thread CatMajik, I have often wondered how people got into building games

1) My first PC game was a RPG game on a diskette called "Alone in the Dark''

2) Pharaoh, when it first went on sale and believe it or not I paid $90.00 for it at Comp-USA.

It was a basketball freethrow game on cassette tape for a TRS-80 Model I with 4KB of RAM.

Then I got a Star Wars game. Basically a reenactment of flying through the canal of the Death star with primitive graphics, TIE fighters that looked like this: <-0-> and |-0-|.

1. Master of Magic
2. SimCity

"Master of Magic" was what got me into PC games, but "SimCity" (and later "Caesar," although I didn't understand any of it at the time :o ) was what made building games in an obsession. :)

Anyone remember the name of one of those "DOS based text games" where there was a circus? I LOVED that one!

My first text game was Zork, later followed by Haunted House, and much later by Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Infocom. I've still got many of these games on tape and on 180KB single-sided 5.25" floppies. I must have about 200 or more floppies with games on them.

Sierra has been re-releasing some of the old graphic adventure games again in new packages, Kings Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, etc. I gave the Space Quest series another try. The graphics are ancient but the games are still fun.

They all run about $20 for the full collection of all the games of each title. They can even be purchased via digital download.

I love the Space Quest slogon: "In space no one can hear you clean." ROFL! (Note: In SQ the hero is a janitor.)
