Golden Pyramid House

Postby Keith » Fri Apr 30, 2010 3:55 am

What's 6 stories tall, shaped like a pyramid, and is plated in 24 karat gold?

The private residence of Jim and Linda Onan's 17,000 sq ft home in Wadworth, Il. It's walled in enclosure includes a 50 foot statue of King Tut's death mask, a 67 foot tall statue of Ramasses, a replicat burial tomb serving as a gift ship and sphinx lined driveway. The garage is topped by three small pyramids. The home is really plated with 24 karat gold and is the largest gold plated object in the world.

The inside is detailed with hierorglyphs on the room walls, golden doors, etc.

The place may or may not be open to tours on sundays by appointment only for a fee of $20 per adult and $10 per child.

...and expensive too since that's real gold on the house.

I guess the guy can't decide if he wants to be an attraction or not after all that effort. He seemed to want it by running a gift shop, but then he supposedly shut it down.

He was upset with one guy that drove in took a brief look around by the gift shop. The visitor said the gate was open and there were no "No Trespassing" signs posted. On his way out the owner came driving in from the road outside and wanted to know what he wanted. They guy said he was just curious, the gate was open and saw the sign for the gift shop and parked. The owner just drove off shaking his head. The visitor shouted "Nice to meet you!" sarcastically and drove away and wrote about it in his blog.

Some people do things simply for the sake of being ostentatious. I guess this would be a classic example.

The house might make a good mod for SCS. ;)

Could that pyramid be made into a hotel?

Which one? The virtual one in SCS or the real one in the picture above? In both cases, the answers would be yes. :D

Either one would be great, but I think the virtual one with the SCS would be better, not as tacky looking.

I see no problem with it. The Egyptians themselves were famous for over-doing it.

Tacky is still tacky, besides, I see no Egyptians in any of those pictures.

I wonder what the owners overall plan looks like, I don't believe that plot of land is fully developed yet. Needs tiles! It looks like there is a nice open patio on the second floor of the pyramid must be nice sitting there on a summer day.

I really like the layout but I think the gold plating is very tacky also. White stone would have been much better maybe a gold cap and I think I might have used the Sphinx similar to the Luxor in Vegas where it is the entryway to the main building.

I love the moat/lake but myself I would stray away from the desert thing and surround it with gardens and sitting areas. Maybe even allow day camping in 20x20 themed gardens. I think modeling these gardens after the ancient cities would be sweet.

Oh and Here is some recent Video where the owner talks about the gold plating
I found this video shows more inside
