Old game demos

Postby Keith » Thu Apr 11, 2013 7:45 pm

I was poking around the inernetarchive.org site and checked out their archived game demo files.

They have copies of the demos for Caesar II & III, Pharaoh and Zeus. Note: Caesar II requires the use of MS-DOS which is not supplied with Windows after Win98. The full version of Caesar I is available free of charge (legally) somewhere on the net.

If you never played the old classic city builder games, try one of the first three demos on the list above.

Most DOS games are usable on DosBox, which GOG also uses for classics. Wasn't aware that Caesar II was available for free. I thought that was only Caesar I?

I knew of Caesar I, so I went to do some google-ing and found Caesar II as well, not sure if it's legal though... and not sure if it runs, haven't tested yet. I do own the old CD of Caesar II anyway, but that doesn't install on new machines.

Edit: Seems to work, mostly. There's some flickering, and I'm not sure about the game speed. Seems OK, but some UI controls are flickering and hardly readable. Not sure about all the ingame parameters as well, I'm always robbed even if people tell me that the area is very peaceful.

There was also a Win version of Caesar II. I had some sound issue with the Dos Caesar when I last tried it on XP, I think.
