directx error

Postby michaelincolorado » Thu Nov 20, 2008 4:54 pm

I am new to Steam. After purchase and dowload when game shows in Steam and I try to launch it tells me:

application requires durectx 9.0c or higher press to unstall
failed to launch directx 9.0c setup
minimum directx version not found quitting

I run lots of games on my year old Dell XP M1210 - my idrectx is fine and current.

I guess I should have waited on this game but it looked good....

How do I get it to run?

Postby Jeff Fiske » Thu Nov 20, 2008 5:27 pm

Please update your DX from here
[COLOR=navy][FONT=Arial]http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en

[COLOR=White]We will be integrating this into the build in the near future, but if you are getting DX 9 errors, please try this first.

Hope this helps

Thanks, Jeff. I dl'd the linked file and only problem is it downloads small file to my portable and then when I go to install it fails to connect to it's server - tells me to try later. Any timeframe on you re-issuing the game as it looks like I have to wait for that? Thanks.

This will be a matter of days, not weeks. Most likely early next week will be the next time the game gets an update on Steam.

Try this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=886ACB56-C91A-4A8E-8BB8-9F20F1244A8E&displaylang=en

This is DirectX End-User Runtimes (November 2008)

Create a ‘System Restore Point’, first. (It's recommended)

Press the ‘download’ button and then press ‘save’

It's the whole lot and just over 86MB, in size. You won't get the problems you've been having and it will install the newer DirectX 9.0c files.

Once downloaded, double click the file and it will ask you to select a folder to unpack it.

Once you've done this find the file named DXSETUP.exe in that folder

Run this file, accept the agreement and will install.

You can then delete the contents of the temporary folder, if you wish but keep the file you downloaded, though.

Reboot the computer. (You don't have to but it's best to do so.)

:)

Hi Matt and Michael, you're both welcome.

I'm so glad you got your game going, Michael. Even at this early stage, it's getting good feedback.

Rick :)
