Crashes immediately, no opening, nothing

Postby texmaster » Sat Oct 10, 2009 4:24 am

Hi,

Just bought it (for a second time) but this time on directtodownload the enhanced version.

Its been a while but I never had a problem before.

It crashes immediately. Tries the reformatting for the intro movie then crashed immediately with the tired message that it was forced to close.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Do you still have the orginial version of the game installed? There is a conflict between the orginal game and the digitial download of the game.

No. I formatted long ago. The original game was never installed on this OS

I am not a tech guru anymore but it looks like the problem comes from binkw32.dll

I have had an error with binkw32 before. Here is how I fixed it..
OS= WindowsXP Pro SP3
Note: do not skip the reboots.

Rebooted machine...

Un-installed COTN

Rebooted machine
Verified the COTN folder was gone.
Moved the \My Documents\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile folder to a temp location.

rebooted machine

re-install COTN and reboot,
Should now be playable, if all works fine...

Copy save games and custom scenarios from temp location into newly created \My Documents\Tilted Mill\Children of the Nile folder .

If it is still playable, Have fun!
If it is crashing again, delete the files you copied over from the temp location.

Good luck!

Sadly I tried all of that and it didn't work.

Hope I wasn't confusing but on this pc, its never seen this game since I formatted. And this vid card certainly never saw it.

Thanks for your reply. Any other ideas would be appreciated :)
