Send out repeated quests. More expensive quests are the type that will eventually produce a scarab. It may take a while but it can be done. I've built all my cities with free scarabs found during quests.

Hmm, not entirely true.

Every quest has an equal chance to produce a scarab. So in fact the cheaper quests have more chance to produce one. You have 6 times more chance to a scarab when you send 6 nomequests at a time compared to one Holy Pilgrimage(cost 6 envoys).

Cheers!!!
But it ain't necessarily so.

Had a scarab sending just one envoy at a nome exploration.
But it ain't necessarily so.

I have been sending envoys on all different size missions since the missions started. I have only found 6 and haven't found any at all for about 5 months. Anyone still finding them and which are the better ones to get the results. I am about tempted to finally go immortal because I can't find any.

All four of my cities have reached level 22 with "found" (free) scarabs. They don't come very often but they are out there. I found one just few weeks ago. I've been sending out quests since the game started. You'll do better with the higher cost quests. Lately, I've been getting other rare prestige items like a hammer, armor, etc.

Wish I had that luck. I did trade for 2 scarabs early in the game. My cities are 22, 18, 6, and 6 and 2 monuments maxed. I have some moderate luck with other items but mainly linen and flowers. I have been doing the 6 envoy one twice a day lately, but had been doing a variety of 6: 1,5 : 2,4 : 3,3 for a long time. Mostly, I get just bricks and construction time, so all my cities have fully leveled buildings with maxed capacity on all goods. I have been trying to see if I can climb a little in standings, but with no scarabs, it seems impossible.

I beg to differ here in opinion.
The majority of scarabs I got were from smaller quests. Nome explorations account for 50% of scarabs found, desert explorations another 25%. I never had a scarab from Holy.
But it ain't necessarily so.

Yep, if you are quest scarab chasing, then more small quests work better. All quests give the same chance of getting a scarab ~ 2%.

You can also buy scarabs at the Scarab Store & help us Row the Nile Boat ~ Support the game! Much more effective to buy them, than wait for quest scarabs that can take months!

I would agree if the game was alive.

Hya Tinkerbell,

I think this game never came out of beta. That's why(well I had other problems with buying throughout the game)I never even considered buying scarabs.
Apart from that, I want a game that is the same for all. Either you make the game the same for all, or you just sell some windowdressing for the money. The core of the game should be the same for all. Well I will dream on on that.

Cheers my friend!!!

I'm using nome exploration, desert exploration, and tomb raids to get bricks for the barracks upgrades in my fourth city. These are the last buildings I have to work on.

I had one scarab from a Holy Pilgrimage a month or two ago. Since going back to the three smaller quests I have found 2 more scarabs just in the past 4 days, with one coming just today. I have also found a couple of hammers, and other quest items as well in the past 2 weeks.

I'll go back to Holy Pilgrimages once the build times on the higher level barracks upgrades starts to get longer.

Great!!! I've been purchasing scarabs for resources from Nile traders... Have purchased 3 so far... I don't know it is good to do that or not, but then if there's no one working on developing the game, then why should they need the money after all... If the game gets better, then everyone would like to purchase things with real money... till then, I too don't agree that the scarabs should be purchased... but still, I do not like to use the real money on games...

Bought scarabs might help you achieve a goal more quickly. I'm still playing my original four cities in my original account name from March 2009. All the scarabs I used were free.

I did a total of 797 quests.

Total lux spent: 567,300
Total ships spent: 3,075
Total bread spent: 307,500

Verdict: 10 scarabs

Basically a 0.0125470514% chance of landing a scarab per quest, at least from my experience.

10/797 = 0.012547 or 1.25%

A bit low, but close enough to my 2%

here are the results of my 1204 quests from my last life which was a life with 4 lvl 22 cities, 2 monument sites with lvl 5 monuments and without purchasing or trading for scarabs

Nome Exploration (bricks received between 200-300)
694 Quests, 13 scarabs (1.87%)
40 linen, 34 flowers

Desert Expedition (bricks received between 500-750)
201 Quests, 4 scarabs (1.99%)
7 skins, 2 linen, 2 flowers, 4 hammer, 9 wine

Tomb Raid (bricks received between 1108-1604)
43 Quests, 0 scarabs
1 hammer, 1 flower, 1 basalt statue

Mediterranean Exploration
5 Quests, 0 scarabs

Journey to Punt
142 Quests, 4 scarabs (2.82%)
2 skins, 1 linen, 1 flower, 2 gems, 2 monkeys, 1 quartz, 1 hammer, 2 basalt statues, 1 armor

Holy Pilgrimage
119 Quests, 1 scarab (0.84%)
1 linen, 1 monkey, 1 hammer, 2 wine, 1 basalt statue, 2 blades

I am fairly certain that I would have received more scarabs had I continued with Nome Explorations and done fewer Holy Pilgrimages. However I wanted the building time bonus.
